LUSTR illustration and comics festival, Czech Republic

LUSTR is an international festival of illustration and comics in Prague, Czech Republic. The festival highlights the creativity and diversity of new talent, offering a platform for innovative and experimental approaches to illustration.

As part of the LUSTR On Tour program, the festival is presenting a curated selection of six Czech illustrators in Taipei, offering international audiences the opportunity to explore the vibrant world of contemporary Czech illustration and comics.

✸ BARBORA MÜLLEROVÁ

Illustrator, curator of LUSTR festival and university lecturer of illustration praxis, history and theory. As an illustrator, Barbora focuses mostly on topics connected to nature, anthropocene, natural and social science and female rights. Her work has been nominated for awards as The Most Beautiful Book of the Year and the Golden Ribbon Award. Since 2022, Barbora has been a member of the Czech Academy of Design jury that annually awards the Illustrator of the Year prize. Her work has been presented at numerous festivals and group exhibitions, notably in Taipei, Budapest, Ghent or Riga. In 2023, she was selected for the international Illustration Symposium in Broumov as an artist in residence.


✸ NADIA BILINOVA

Nadia Bilinová co-founded the LUSTR festival OF ILLUSTRATION IN 2013 and has been an integral part of its development ever since. She has played a key role in several significant initiatives, including the launch of the foreign exhibition program LUSTR On Tour and a residency for illustrators and comic creators. Nadia primarily focuses on the organization and production of the festival.


From 2013 to 2018, she worked in the bookshop and publishing house PageFive, where she managed operations and organized the LUSTR illustration festival and the Czechillustrators blog. Between 2018 and 2020, she founded and operated the cultural and educational center Vzletná. Currently, Nadia continues her work with the LUSTR illustration festival, coordinates LUSTR On Tour—a series of traveling exhibitions of Czech illustration abroad.


✸ JANA JAROŠOVÁ

MgA. Jana Jarošová is a graduate of the Master’s program in Arts and Humanities from the University of Dundee in the UK. Since joining the LUSTR festival’s organizational team in autumn 2021 as program director, she has significantly contributed to its growth and success. In addition to her role as program director, she has been involved since 2022 as the secretary of the international showcase of young talents, producer, and dramaturg for the festival’s accompanying program. In 2023, she expanded her responsibilities to include the role of exhibition architect.


Alongside her work with LUSTR, Jana is engaged with the ArtMap publishing house and dedicates her remaining time to art and music. Her diverse professional background showcases her strong commitment to the cultural and artistic community.

✸ NIKOLA LOGOSOVÁ

One of the most successful Czech illustrators of the young generation working mostly in book, media and advert illustration, yet also experimenting with comics from time to time. Her work excels in its playfulness and interest in detail. Among other prizes, Nikola was awarded as the Illustrator of 2019 in the prestigious Czech Grand Design competition, her book was listed in prestigious White Raven list. In 2024, Nikola illustrated visual style for LUSTR festival.

✸ JAN ŠRÁMEK

Specializing in digital illustration, Jan excels in depicting architecture and technologies, yet he also focuses a lot on landscapes. His work has been presented at galleries and festivals all over the world, notably in London, New York, Amsterdam, Seoul and Beijing. In 2014, he was co-creator of the Czecho-Slovak pavilion at the Venice Biennale of Architecture. In 2017 and 2020, he won the Czech Grand Design award in the Illustrator of the Year category. His illustrations for the book That’s Metro, Man! were selected for a prestigious exhibition at the Bologna Children’s Book Fair in 2020.

✸ MATYÁŠ NAMAI

One of the most succesful Czech comics artists whose work has been published in numerous foreign countries, notably in Great Britain, USA, Australia, Serbia and Hungary. In 2024, he was invited to the Hercegnovski Strip Festival in Montenegro and to the Czech House in Belgrade, Serbia, to present his work. In 2023, his comics documentary Cernobyl – The Fall of Atomgrad was nominated to the Muriel Comics Award in the drawing category. In addition to his art practice, he occasionally teaches storytelling and comics anatomy. In 2022, Matyáš led an illustration workshop together with Barbora Müllerová at Gran Salón Mexico festival as a part of LUSTR On Tour program.

✸ ALŽBĚTA ZEMANOVÁ

Illustrator, toy designer, publisher and gallerist co-leading art bookshop and illustration gallery Xao in Prague. Besides illustration, Alžběta devotes herself to designing creative and playful textile and paper toys known under the brand AKA and Napoli. Together with graphic designer Martina Kupsová, Alžběta also creates installations and leads creative workshops for kids. Her work has been presented in numerous foreign countries such as Norway, Japan, Estonia, Hungary or Belgium. In 2023, Alžběta illustrated visuals for festival LUSTR.

✸ TEREZA ŠIKLOVÁ

Illustrator focused mainly on books for children, lately working a lot also in the field of comics. Tereza‘s author‘s book The Giant was awarded The Golden Ribbon prize in 2022 and a year later it was selected for the prestigous exhibition at Bologna Children‘s Book Fair. She was also selected for international residencies – comics residency in Riga organized by Kuš! publishing house and Illustration Symposium in Broumov in 2022. Her style is very expressive as well as tender.

✸ JAKUB HRDLIČKA

Illustrator connected mostly to the music and artzine scene creating visuals for Czech and abroad metal, drone and dungeon synth bands and events. Jakub‘s work stands out for its vivid stylization, expressive strokes and dark gloomy atmosphere. He is a part of illustrators group Nýbrž and in the past showed his work for example in festivals and group exhibitions in Ghent, Budapest, Jerusalem or Ljubljana.
