MVM (PHL)

MVM, a visual artist from Quezon City, Philippines, has lived a nomadic life since 2011. His early pre-COVID practice moved fluidly across photography and digital painting, and in recent years expanded into large-scale installation and acrylic painting. Across these forms, his work consistently engages with themes of identity, memory, and the human condition. His imagery blends the familiar with the fantastical, merging human presence with elements of nature and technology to create surreal, dream-infused landscapes.

His recent works reflect on the emotional terrain of chasing ambitions, the pauses and doubts that accompany the journey, and the impact these pursuits have on the self, on relationships, on society, and even on the tenderness shared between humans and their pets.

MVM has exhibited internationally at notable art fairs such as Art Copenhagen (2015, 2016), Tokyo International Art Fair (2017), Manila Art (2010, 2014), Bamboo Arts Studio (2014), Freedom Men Art (2014), Pier 2 Artist-Residence (2015), Art Fair Philippines (2023), the Kaohsiung Light Art Festival (2022), and the Taipei Illustration Fair (2023–2024). His achievements include:

2010 – First Prize, Digital Art, Art Museum of Chianciano Terme, Italy
2011 – Best Photographic Illustration Award, Redmond Digital Arts Festival, Washington, USA
2014 – Nomination by Singapore Art Museum for the APBF Signature Art Prize
2014 & 2017 – Named among the “Top 10 Most Inspiring Visual Artists in Asia,” Top 10
Publications, Malaysia
2015 – Second Place, Secret Art Prize, Curious Duke Gallery, UK
2020 – Finalist, Arte Laguna Prize, Italy

His collaborations extend to notable institutions, including GIANT, where he transformed employees’ cycling stories into rideable artworks. In 2021, he designed a symbolic bicycle representing Taichung City for the Taichung Chill event. In 2022, he created a sound–visual installation at Xiangshan Wetlands, allowing audiences to experience the local soundscape, and also participated in the Arte Laguna Prize, Focus Art Fair at the Louvre, the Xiangshan Wetlands Art Festival, and the Kaohsiung Light Art Festival.

From 2023 onward, he has joined exhibitions and fairs including Taipei Night Art Fair, Art Formosa, Young Art Kaohsiung, Taipei Illustration Art Fair, Art Fair Philippines, and Free Art Fair, selling multiple works and expanding his collector base. He also designed a castle-like structure for Taichung Kornell International School. During his time in Taichung, he founded Art Factory—a creative space for improvisation sessions and artist-sharing events. He produced the “Ram Piece” for Yizhan Art Gallery, and in November 2024 created a new installation for the Free Art Fair.

In 2025, MVM relocated from Taichung to Taipei, where he continues preparing for new exhibitions across Taipei and Hsinchu. Most recently, he completed a solo exhibition at 加沃文行+wò Cultural Practice, where the majority of his works remain available through the gallery until February 2026.
